Bluefield, WV – Despite getting on the board first, the Big Blue fell to Fayetteville State on Saturday 28-18.
The Big Blue were forced to punt in the opening drive of the game, but the Big Blue Corey Watkins forced the fumble and took it to the endzone to give the Big Blue the 6-0 advantage. The Broncos took the lead in the first drive of the second quarter and then expanded their lead 14-6 with 1:08 left in the first half.
After the Broncos took the 21-6 lead, the Big Blue answered with a touchdown of their own with Isiah Teal finding Darius Thompson for the 18-yard touchdown pass.
In the fourth, the Broncos added another to make the score 28-12 with 11:50 left to play. The Big Blue held off the Broncos for the rest of the game and added six of their own through Teal to Thompson for the 16-yard touchdown pass (28-18).
Freshman Isiah Teal completed 26 out of 45 attempts for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Darius Thompson led the receivers with 64 yards and two touchdowns.
Brett Brantley led on the defensive side for the Big Blue with six tackles (3 solo, 3 assists) with Corey Watkins and Justin Campbell adding five each.
