Bluefield, WV- Bluefield State University football fell to Bowie State in a conference matchup 40-11 on Saturday at home.
Both teams went into the second quarter scoreless with Bowie State getting on the board first in their first drive of the quarter. The Bulldogs extended their lead after an interception, 13-0. The Bulldogs scored with 20 seconds left in the second quarter to go into the half with the 19-0 lead over the Big Blue.
A good 35-yard field goal from Braxton VanScoy got the Big Blue their first points of the evening, 19-3. Bowie State added another to go into the final quarter with the 26-3 lead.
The Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with a passing touchdown to push their lead 33-3 but the Big Blue answered with a touchdown of their own. Isiah Team found
Jahdir Loftland for the 5-yard touchdown pass. The Big Blue would successfully go for two with Teal rushing the end zone. The Bulldogs would add the final touchdown of the night at the five minute mark to take the 40-11 win over the Big Blue.
Teal completed 20 out of 43 attempts for the Big Blue with 187 yards.
Loftland led the Big Blue with 50 rushing yards followed by
Lucas Moore with 93 yards on 10 receiving attempts.
The Big Blue were led on the defensive side by
Justin Campbell with seven tackles (5 solo, 2 assists) and
Brett Brantley with six solo tackles.
