Clarion, PA – Bluefield State University men's basketball fell to #25 Mercyhurst University 64-61 on Saturday.
The Big Blue took the early lead after a layup from Jordan Hinds and Jaylen Bernard. A three from Clay Baldwin later in the half built the Big Blue lead to eight. At the 1:38 mark, Ja'Mere Redus forced the turnover and Travon Cooper found Nduka Ogwu for the dunk to give the Big Blue the 10-point lead. Mercyhurst battled back to cut the Big Blue lead to five going into the half.
Mercyhurst evened the score five minutes into the second half at 34. Facing a 14-point deficit with just under five minutes left the play, a three and a layup from Cooper pulled the Big Blue within nine. A three from Hinds cut the Mercyhurst lead to one with 1:21 left in play. After late fouls sent Mercyhurst the line twice, a last second layup for the Big Blue wasn't enough to overcome Mercyhurst, 64-61.
Jordan Hinds led the Big Blue with 18 points followed by Jaylen Bernard with nine and Ja'Mere Redus with nine points and seven assists. Nduka Ogwu led all players with 11 rebounds on the night.
