Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University men's basketball dropped their home opener against Emory & Henry, 95-88.
The Big Blue struck first with a free throw by Nduka Ogwu and a two from Rylan Bowens. The Wasps built a 10-point lead at 11:56, but back-to-back threes from Clay Baldwin and Jaylen Bernard sparked an eight-point run to pull the Big Blue with two of the Wasps. An Ogwu three gave the Big Blue the one-point lead, but the Wasps answered with a three of their own to take back the lead. Ja'Mere Redus hit a midrange jumper with less than a minute to cut the deficit to one, but the Wasps scored with 20 seconds to take the 46-43 advantage into the half.
The Wasps scored the first four of the second half and built a ten-point lead at 16:12. With 3:25 left to play, the Big Blue cut the Wasps lead to five. After a three from Hinds, with under a minute to play, two late fouls sent the Wasps to the line to secure the 95-88 victory over the Big Blue.
The Big Blue were led by Nduka Ogwu with 17 points, followed by Ja'Mere Redus with 14, Jordan Hinds with 13, and Jaylen Bernard, Rylan Bowens, and Clay Baldwin with 12 apiece.
