Banner Elk, NC – Bluefield State University women's basketball took down Lees-McRae College in a non-conference matchup, 78-69. The Big Blue move to 4-1 on the year and Lees-McRae moves to 1-3 on the year.
The Bobcats opened the night with a 7-0 scoring run, but the Big Blue battled back after a three-point play from Alexyss Newman evened the score at nine. With 47 seconds left in the first the Big Blue built a lead of six. The Bobcats went 4-for-4 from the line to close out the quarter to pull the Big Blue within two.
Sincere Roberts opened the second with a jumper in the paint, but the Bobcats answered with four points to tie it up at 22. The Bobcats built a lead of eight over the Big Blue. A putback layup from Shalance Montoya cut the Bobcats lead to six going into the half.
The Big Blue came out of the half with the first ten points to take back the lead, 41-37. The Bobcats evened the score at 46, but the Big Blue closed out the half with the last six points to take the 52-46 lead.
The Bobcats pulled within three with 34 seconds left to play, but the Big Blue went on the outscore the Bobcats 8-2 to take the win, 78-69.
Azariah led the Big Blue with 19 points with Shalance Montova coming away with the double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Katrina Davis and Alexyss Newman added 12 points each on the night.
