Tocoma Park, MD- Bluefield State University women's basketball hold off the Washington Adventist Shock, 67-66. The Big Blue move to 6-1 and the Shock move to 6-2.
The Shock scored the first five points of the game, but two free throws and back-to-back layups gave the Big Blue the 6-5 lead. Later in the quarter, the Shock scored nine consecutive points to build a six-point lead. After a three from Katrina Davis and a put back layup from Icesis Nwafor, the Big Blue cut the Shock lead to one going into the second quarter. The Shock built a lead of eight midaway through the second. The Big Blue battled back to cut the Shock lead to two going into the half.
The Big Blue open the half with a 9-0 run to take the 45-38 lead. The Shock evened the score at 49 with three minutes left in the third, but the Big Blue scored five of the last seven points to take the 54-51 lead into the fourth. Two layups from Shalance Montoya and one from Alexyss Newman extended the Big Blue lead to nine midway through the fourth. The Shock would pull within one after a three with 13 seconds left to play, but the Big Blue held on for the 67-66 victory.
Alexyss Newman led all scorers with 19 followed by Shalance Montoya with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Azariah Binford added seven assists, five points and four steals on the night.
