Box Score 4 Orangeburg, SC – Bluefield State University Softball opened their season at the CIAA/SIAC Challenge in Orangeburg, SC. The Big Blue went 2-3, earning two wins over Allen University.
On day one, the Big Blue fell to Albany State 10-4, but bounced back with two wins over Allen University 11-3 and 9-1. On day two, the Big Blue fell to Kentucky State University 5-3 and Miles College 14-10.
Game Two vs. Allen - (11-3) W
Paige Whittington opened the game with a single to the pitcher and later stole second and third to move into score position. Bella Coffman drew the walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch with Whittington coming across the plate. After a double from Taylor Fells brought in two, a double to right field by Julianna Costanzo brought in three to take the 6-0 lead. Coming back around to the top of the line up in the first, Whittington singled through the left field to bring in another run followed by homerun from Coffman over left field to plate two more for the Big Blue. Allen plated one run in the first and two in the fourth, but the Big Blue answered with two om the fifth off of Allen errors to take the mercy rule win over Allen University.
Game Three vs. Allen - (9-1) W
Going into the second own by 1, the Big Blue answered to even the score after a triple from Calla Cooksey and a single from Valeria Rivera 1-1. The Big Blue plated three in the third and four in the fourth off of Allen errors to take the 4-1 lead. The Big Blue secured the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth after Kylie Salazar hit a leadoff double followed by Cooksey reaching on an error and scoring pinch runner Taylor Anderson.
