Salem, VA – In their first year back in the Central Collegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Big Blue have been selected to finish ninth overall and fifth in the northern division for the 2023 CIAA preseason poll.
The Big Blue will open the season in nonconference matchups with fellow CIAA member Livingstone College and cross-town rival Emory & Henry College before beginning conference play.
The predicted order for the 2023 season is as followed:

- Johnson C. Smith
- Winston-Salem State
- Elizabeth City State
- Bluefield State
- Lincoln (Pa.)
- Livingstone
