Bluefield, WV - Bluefield State University is pleased to announce the appointment of Ryan Bailey as the Interim Director of Athletics. Bailey, who has served as the Associate Director of Athletics since April 2021, brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success to his new role.
Ryan Bailey joined Bluefield State in March 2017 as the Head Women's Basketball Coach and in May 2020 was named the Assistant Director of Athletics and quickly proved his capabilities. His tenure as Head Women's Basketball Coach saw the program achieve significant milestones, including multiple winning seasons and notable individual player accomplishments. Under his leadership, the women's basketball team turned around from a struggling program to one of prominence, with Bailey earning a reputation for excellence and dedication.
In his role as Associate Director, Bailey was instrumental in the expansion of Bluefield State's athletic programs, adding ten varsity teams and facilitating the university's entry into the Historic CIAA conference. His contributions have not only enhanced the athletic department but also elevated the overall student-athlete experience at Bluefield State.
Bailey expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, "I am honored and humbled by this appointment. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to President Martin for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading our athletics department. I look forward to continuing to work with our dedicated coaches, staff, and student-athletes to build on our recent successes and strive for even greater achievements."
Bailey's career in athletics administration and coaching spans over two decades, with notable achievements at Malone University, the University of Charleston, and Mercyhurst North East College. His comprehensive understanding of athletic program development and his commitment to student-athlete success make him an ideal leader for this transitional period.
