Petersburg, VA – Bluefield State University volleyball fell short against Virginia State in four sets (14-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-27). The Big Blue fall to 12-17 (9-4 CIAA).
After falling in set one, the Big Blue bounced back to take set two 25-23. A kill from Imani Stokes sparked a four point run for the Big Blue to take the 10-6 lead midway through the set. After the Trojans pulled within one (24-23), a kill from Soniya Garner secured the set win for the Big Blue.
Down 16-19 in the third set, two kills from Jannice Lynch, an ace from Rosalyn Nightingale and an error by the Trojans evened the score 19-19. The Trojans would go on to score six out of eight points to take set three.
In the fourth set, the Big Blue pulled away from the Trojans early, 11-5. After the Trojans battled back within one, a kill from Lynch and a block from Stokes and Lynch put the Big Blue ahead 24-21. A kill from Brishaela McHaney put the Big Blue on top 25-24 but the Trojans would go on to score the next three points to take the victory over the Big Blue.
Lynch led the Big Blue with 14 kills and 13 digs. McHaney added seven kills with Gabby Hale contributing 29 assists and seven digs. Sydney Hoosier came away with 18 digs and three ace serves while Stokes added 6 blocks.
