Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University Volleyball took down Elizabeth City State 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) on Senior Day. The Big Blue move to 14-17 on the year and 9-6 conference play.
Down in set one 8-6, a kill from Jannice Lynch and Fesili Masaniai evened the score 8-8. Later in the set, tied 16-16, a kill from Imani Stokes sparked a three-point run to give the Big Blue the 19-16 lead but the Vikings scored six consecutive to take the 22-19. The Big Blue went on to score the next six out of seven points to secure the set one victory.
The Vikings took the 8-6 lead early in set two, but a kill from Masaniai and an error from the Vikings evened the score, 8-8. The Big Blue began to pull away after two ace serves from Gabby Hale, 21-16. A kill from Stokes sealed the 25-21 set victory for the Big Blue.
The Big Blue started strong scoring the first three point of set three, but the Vikings answered with three of their own to even the score. Later in the set, the Big Blue scored six uninterrupted points to pull away 12-5. Later in the set, the Vikings battled back to even the score at 18, but two kills from Lynch, two kills by Stokes and a kill by Soniya Garner pushed the Big Blue ahead 23-18. A block from Stokes and Hale and a solo block from Stokes secured the sweep for the Big Blue 25-19.
Stokes led the Big Blue with 14 kills and five blocks. Hale contributed 37 assists with Hoosier and Lynch adding 14 digs each.
