Bluefield, WV – Facing a 13-point deficit at halftime, Bluefield State University men's basketball scored 70 points in the second half to take down West Virginia State University, 112-106. The Big Blue improve to 7-3 (1-0 CIAA) on the year.
The Yellow Jackets took the early lead scoring back-to-back opening buckets. A three by the Yellow Jackets gave them the 10-point lead six minutes into play. Later in the half, Travon Cooper II scored four consecutive points to pull the Big Blue with seven. The Yellow Jackets built a lead of 18 with three minutes left in the half, but the Big Blue closed out the half on a 9-4 scoring run to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 13 going into the half.
The Big Blue offense came to life coming out of the half, scoring the first 10 points to pull within three of the Yellow Jackets. A midrange jumper from Rell Williams sparked an 11-point run to give the Big Blue the 72-63 lead with 14:29 left to play. The Big Blue had their largest lead of the night after a trip to the line for Cooper (110-84, +16). The Yellow Jackets hit back-to-back threes to close out the game but was no match for the Big Blue offense, 112-106.
Hinds led the Big Blue with 25 points with Cooper adding 18 and Shainen Cater coming away with 17. Williams secured the double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds while also adding eight assists.
