Salisbury, NC - Bluefield State University men's basketball took down Livingstone College 89-84 on Saturday. The Big Blue improve to 5-3 (1-0 CIAA).
Down 6-5, a layup by Romeo Aquino sparked a six point run for the Big Blue to take the 11-6 lead. Later in the half the Blue Bears built a 23-15 lead, but a trip to the line for Aquino evened the score at 32 with 3:29 left in the half. Tied at 37 with one minute remaining, a layup by Darius Boben gave the Big Blue the 39-37 lead. The Blue Bears evened the score with six seconds on the clock to go into the half tied 39-39.
The Blue Bears came out of the half and took the 52-41 lead over the Big Blue. A three point play from Shainen Carter sparked a Big Blue run to pull within three of the Blue Bears. A three from Larry Howell erased the Blue Bears lead to even the score at 54. The Big Blue built a lead, 72-62, after a dunk from Hinds with six minutes left in regulation. With 1:12 remaining the Blue Bears pulled within two of the Big Blue, but the Big Blue would outscore the Blue Bears 7-4 to seal the 89-84 conference victory over Livingstone.
Hinds led the Big Blue with 25 points and seven rebounds followed by Howell with 20 points. Rell Williams secured the double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
