Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University men's basketball took down Bowie State University 77-73. The Big Blue improve to 7-15 (4-8 CIAA) and the Bulldogs move to 7-17 (2-10 CIAA).
The Big Blue got off to a blazing start, scoring the first six points of the night from back-to-back buckets from Jaylen Bernard and Ja'Mere Redus and two free throws from Jordan Hinds. A three-point play from Nduka Ogwu extended the Big Blue lead to 12 five minutes into the half. The Bulldogs battled back to pull within three midway through the half, but a three with five minutes left built the Big Blue lead to 11. With 30 seconds left in the first, a midrange jumper from O'Montae Daniels put the Big Blue ahead by nine, but a Bulldogs bucket with one second on the clock cut the lead to seven going into the half.
The Bulldogs evened the score at 53 at the 12:51 mark. Travon Cooper found Hinds in the paint to build the Big Blue lead to five later in the half, but the Bulldogs took their first lead of the night with 6:44 left to play. The Big Blue went on to outscore the Bulldogs 14-9 to close out the half and secure the 77-73 victory.
Jordan Hinds led the Big Blue with 16 points and eight rebounds on the night. Nduka Ogwu came away with 15 with Jaylen Bernard having 13 points and seven rebounds and Chase Page with 11 points.
