Bluefield, WV – After eight years of dedicated service, Derrick Price, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, has announced his resignation from Bluefield State University.

"I am deeply grateful for my time at Bluefield State and for the relationships I've built over the past eight years," Price reflected. "I've had the privilege to witness this university's remarkable growth, and I believe now is the right moment for me to explore new professional opportunities. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the athletes, colleagues, and staff who have made my time here so memorable. I am excited to see what the future holds for this university and its athletic programs."

Price, who was promoted to Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics in July 2022 after serving as Director of Athletics for two years, has made a significant impact on the university's athletic programs. Under his visionary leadership, Bluefield State expanded its athletic offerings by adding 10 new sports, including football, acrobatics & tumbling, women's soccer, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field, men's and women's wrestling, and women's golf. Price also led the charge to rejoin the CIAA in 2022 after competing as an independent since 2013. Additionally, Price played a pivotal role in enhancing the campus's athletic infrastructure, overseeing the construction of a state-of-the-art weight room and the upgrading of athletic training facilities.

"Derrick's vision and leadership have been instrumental in the growth and success of Bluefield State Athletics," said President Darrin Martin. "We are deeply grateful for his dedication and countless contributions to our university."

Prior to his leadership in athletics administration, Price made his mark on the court. He served as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Bluefield State for four years. His coaching tenure was marked by impressive achievements, including three appearances in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) tournaments, where his team finished as the national runner-up during the 2018-19 season. Price's coaching journey began as an assistant coach at Bluefield College (now Bluefield University), where he laid the foundation for his successful career in athletics.

"We wish Derrick all the best in his future endeavors and know he will continue to achieve great things. He will always be a valued member of the Big Blue family," said Charlie Cole, Chairman of the Board of Governors.
