Marion, NC – Bluefield State University softball moved to 2-2 on the year after victories against Alice Lloyd (6-2) and Montreat College (8-0) in the Montreat College Round Up on Saturday.
Game One vs. Alice Lloyd
The Big Blue quickly went to work in the first with a lead of triple from Paige Whittington. Later, Lauryn DeGuzman doubled to center field to bring home Whittington. DeGuzman collected her second RBI of the game after a double to center brought home Whittington, who singled and stole second to move into scoring position. The Big Blue doubled their runs in the fourth. Julianna Costanzo singled to right field to bring home one followed by another run coming across the plate after an error by Alice Lloyd. The Big Blue extended their lead in the sixth after Mikaylah Chimara scored on a wild pitch. Alice Lloyd attempted to rally in the sixth with two, but a homerun by DeGuzman put the Big Blue out of reach, 6-2.
Jackie Sandy earned the win in the circle throwing 6.2 innings giving up six hits, one walk and struck out two.
Game Two vs. Montreat College
After three scoreless innings, a homerun by Madison Roland scored two for the Big Blue. The Big Blue extended their lead to 8-0 in the sixth. Lexi Shadowens led off the inning with a single followed by a double down the line for DeGuzman to bring one across the plate. Janessah Nappi singled up the middle to bring home DeGuzman. Maggie Mullin drew the walk with Roland scoring on the wild pitch. Later in the inning, Sandy doubled to bring home two. Whittington collected the RBI to bring home the final run for the Big Blue.
Natalie Quezada got the win in the circle throwing five innings, giving up three hits, one walk and struck out one.
