Wise, VA – Bluefield State University baseball took game one 13-8 against UVA Wise but dropped game two 13-12. The Big Blue move to 3-3 on the year.
Game One – 13-8 W
The Big Blue offense set the tone early, scoring three runs in each of the first four innings to take a 12-2 lead. Angel Martinez went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while Jack Sams started the scoring with a three-run home.
In the fifth, the Big Blue added one to push their total to 13. Despite a late push from the Cavaliers, who scored four runs in the seventh, the Big Blue defense and pitching held firm to secure the victory. Alex Compton picked up the win on the mound, throwing four innings giving up three hits, two runs, two walks and struck out three.
Game Two – 13-12 L
After two innings, the Big Blue held the 6-5 lead highlighted by a two-run homerun from Nate Rollins. The Cavilers took the lead after a three-run inning in the third, 8-6. The Big Blue took back the lead after a three run fifth inning, but the Cavilers answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take the 12-9 lead.
Going into the last inning down by one, Kevin Rodriguez sent one over the fence to tie it up 12-12. However, the Cavaliers were able to bring one home to take down the Big Blue 13-12.
Rollins led the Big Blue, going 3-for-5 with a double, homerun and two RBIs. Grayson Peel took the loss on the mound for the Big Blue, throwing 1.1 innings giving up three hits, one run, one walk and striking out two.
