Big Blue Sweep West Virginia Wesleyan at Home

Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University baseball swept a home doubleheader against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday at Bowen Field. The Big Blue opened the day with an 8-3 victory before their offense erupted for a 16-8 win in game two.

Game One – 8-3 W

 The Big Blue set the tone early, scoring one run in the first and another in the second to take the early 2-0 lead. The Bobcats evened the score in the fourth, but Nick Diaz leadoff the bottom of the inning with a homerun to right center to take back the lead. A triple from Nate Rollins brought home another followed by a sac bunt from Blake Mckinney to extend the score to 5-2. Later in the inning, Edwin Hernandez collected the RBI with a single to left field to push the lead, 6-2.

The Big Blue maintained control after adding two more runs in the sixth. Rollins drew the lead-off walk and later scored off of two stolen bases and a wild pitch. Kevin Rodriguez brought home the final run of the game after a double to left field to secure the 8-2 lead.

Joshua Kapp earned the win on the mound, throwing 2.2 innings allowing three hits, one run, two walks  

Game Two – 16-8 W

The Big Blue offense exploded in game two, scoring in every inning except one to secure the 16-8 victory. The Big Blue wasted no time, scoring four in the first and two in the second to jump out to a 6-1 lead.

Rollins led the Big Blue, going 3-for-3 and collecting two RBIs. Mckinney added four RBIs with Anderson Moreno adding three. Jack Sams got the win on the mound, throwing 4.1 innings allowing five hits, three runs, walking three while striking out six.
