Bluefield, VA – Bluefield State University softball earned their first win with a sweep against Bluefield University, securing the 6-3 victory in the opener and following it with a 6-2 win.
Game One – 6-3 W
The Big Blue offense overcame an early deficit to secure the 6-3 victory. Trailing 2-1 heading into the fourth, the Big Blue added two to take the 3-2 lead. The Rams bounced back in bottom of the inning to even the score, 3-3. The Big Blue offense came alive in the seventh to plate three to secure the 6-3 victory.
Mikaylah Chimara led the Big Blue with two hits, two RBIs, two runs and one stolen base with Janessah Nappi finishing with two RBIs, two walks and one hit. Skyy Hicks, Paige Whittington, Sydney Leadbetter, Madison Roland and Amaya Corona each came away with one hit.
Taylor Fells earned the win in the circle, throwing 3.1 innings giving up two hits, one run, two walks and striking out one.
Game Two – 6-2 W
In game two, the Big Blue utilized a strong start and a flawless defensive effort to complete the sweep with a 6-2 win. The Big Blue jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed, adding one in the third and fifth and two in the sixth.
Hicks went 2-for-2, with both hits being doubles, two runs, one RBI and one stolen base. Alexis Coles collected two hits, including one double, one run and one RBI. Whittington, Leadbetter, Julianna Costanzo and Hailey Trujillo added one hit each.
Yonah Rogers threw the complete game for the Big Blue, giving up seven hits, two runs, one walk while striking out six.
