John Brock is beginning his first year at Bluefield State University. Coach Brock comes to Bluefield State from Portland State University (Portland, OR) where he spent two years as the Flex Linebacker Coach and Director of Player Development.
A 2002 graduate of Curry College (Milton, MA), Brock double majored in Political Science and History with a minor in English. He was a three-year starter, named the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year (’01-’02) at Curry, and a finalist for Academic All-American.
After graduation, Brock began his professional career as the Director of Camps and Combines for Student Sports in Torrance, CA. The Nike Football Training Camps (later The Opening), Nike SPARQ Combines and Elite 11 Quarterback Camps were all included under the Student Sports Umbrella. He spent three years at Student Sports and then joined the staff at The United States Military Academy at West Point (Army Football) as the Director of Player Personnel and On Campus Recruiting Coordinator in 2007 In 2009, John was promoted to Defensive Assistant Coach working with the Flex Linebackers as well as being named the Head Coach of the Army B Squad or JV team. The B Squad consisted mostly of freshmen and sophomores and in three seasons the team amassed a record of 16-2 playing against prep schools, junior colleges, and Ivy League JV teams.
After leaving Army in 2013, Brock joined Pace University (Briarcliff, NY) as the Defensive Backs Coach for the Spring and then joined BSN as a Sporting Goods Sales Representative. John made the decision to return to coaching in 2020 and in the Spring of 2021, he joined the staff at Portland State University.
Football is in the blood as Brock’s father Pete played 12 seasons with the New England Patriots. His uncle, Stan, played 16 seasons for the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers (Army Football Head Coach 2007-08). Another uncle, Willie, spent time with the Detroit Lions.
