Box Score 2 Raleigh, NC- Baseball started its first of a 4 game weekend set against St. Augustine's on Friday. The double header did not go so well for the Big Blues as they lost, 1-4 & 3-7.
Strong pitching by St. Aug's proved to be the key in this one as both of their pitchers went the full 7 innings in their respective games.
In the first game, Bluefield State sent Jacob Muncy out on the mound going all 6 innings. Muncy gave up 4 runs on 9 hits. But his most impressive stat was that he did not give up a walk on the day and struck out 2 batters.
The Blues scored early in the first game when Cody Underwood took advantage of a St. Augustine's error. This was the only run the Big Blues were able to muster as St. Aug's pitching settled in and was impressive the rest of the game. St. Augustine's runs came in the bottom of the 4th inning when they were able to get 3 runs off a double and single in the inning. This gave them the lead and they did not look back for the rest of the game.
Game 2 saw some more offense from both teams as each team was able to get on to the pitchers early. Ridge Sibold was on the mound for the Big Blues and had a rough first inning giving up 5 of the 7 runs during the game, but after was able to settle down and get some key strikeouts (5 on the day).
Once again the Big Blues came out and got runs early, scoring all 3 of their runs in the first 3 innings. In the 1st the Blue capitalized on an error and then Peyton Durham was able to double driving in Chase Chambers. Durham also added his 2nd RBI of the game when he singled, driving in Justin Bowler. But the deficit was too much for the Blues and they lost 7-3.
