Box Score 2 Wise, VA- The Big Blues Baseball team had some last minute schedule changes for their weekend series at UVA-Wise. The DH on Saturday ended up being cancelled and they made the single game Sunday a DH. Unfortunately the change in game times did not benefit the Big Blues as they faced some real tough pitching from the Cavaliers losing 4-1 & 10-0.
Bo Williams took the mound and had a very impressive outing. Bo allowed 1 run on 4 hits and had a season high 5 strike outs in his stint. His 4.2 innings of work kept the game deadlocked at 1. Jacob Muncy came on as relief and also pitched very well and helped see the game into extra innings. (Since it was a DH the teams were scheduled to play 7 innings). Unfortunately the Caveliers were able to take him yard in the bottom of the 8th for a 3 run walk-off home run. Including that home-run Jacob (1-3) only gave up 2 hits on the night in his 2.2 innings of work.
The Blues lone run came in the 4th inning when Justin Bowler scored. For the inning, Justin reached 1st on a single and then immediately stole second with Chase Chambers at the plate. Chase then singled bringing Justin to 3rd. Then Sam Harris earned the RBI by hiting a SAC Fly to deep left field.
The night cap saw Ridge Sibold (1-2) take the mound for the Blues. Ridge's performance was quite admirable in the loss as he only walked 1 batter in his 5 innings of work. Unfortunately the Big Blues defense was not very solid committing 4 errors on the day. Ridge gave up 6 runs (only 2 of them earned) on 9 hits and recording one strikeout. Tanner Muovich came on in relief and pitched one inning, giving up 4 runs on 4 hits for the Wise's 10 runs on the night. The Big Blues recorded 3 hits on the night, but UVA-Wise's pitching was impressive as Nathan Hatmaker struck out 5 and gave up 1 hit in his 5 innings of work.
The Big Blues will look to rebound when they go on the road to College of Faith on Wednesday, March 9th. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
