Box Score 2 Mocksville, NC- The Big Blues had to do a little schedule change this weekend and went on the road to Mocksville, NC to play Winston-Salem State for a 2 game series (with the other 2 to be played later in the season). Originally the 4 game series was supposed to be in Princeton, WV but Mother Nature had other plans and so the games were moved to a little warmer climate. The change of locations did not favor the Big Blues as they lost 9-3 & 6-2.
The Big Blues started off slow in the first game being held scoreless in the first 2 innings. Winston-Salem was also able to build a 4 run lead during this time. But in the 3rd the Big Blues were able to come back and plate 3 runs to make it a game. But in the bottom of the 4th the game was broken back open when Winston-Salem was able to get 4 runs off 2 home runs in the inning. The long ball hurt the Blues in the first game as Winston-Salem ended the game with 4, the most the Big Blues have given up in a single game this season.
Ridge Sibold took the mound to start game 1 for the Big Blues but had trouble finding his spots. Sibold ended the day giving up 8 runs on 8 hits, walking 3, striking out 2. But the staggering number on the say was the 3 homeruns Sibold conceded for his stint in the game. Jacob Muncy came in for an inning of relief and struck out 2 batters. To finish the game Romero Cartwright came in and had a solid outing. Cartwright struck out 2 and only walked 1 batter in his 2 innings of work.
Game 2 was very different, as the Big Blues got on the scoreboard early. In the 1st inning the Big Blues got their only 2 runs of the game when Sean Williams was able to get an RBI when he grounded out. Then 1 batter later Chaz Rutherford scored on an error by the pitcher. Unfortunately this was the only the Blues could generate for the game.
Tanner Muovich started game 2 for the Big Blues and pitched a solid 4.1 innings. During his time on the mound he gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and struck out 1. Jacob Muncy came on in relief again and tried to keep the game close. But he gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and also struck 1 batter.
Winston-Salem really took advantage of the long ball for the 2 games today, tallying 5 homeruns in the 2 games.
The Big Blues have 1 day off before taking on Charleston on Tuesday. This game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm if the weather holds up.
