Box Score 2 Princeton, WV- Senior Day did not go as well as planned as the Big Blues were swept by the Winston Salem State Rams. The Rams won the first game in a close contest, 4-3 and won the second 6-2. All was not lost on the day, as the 6 seniors were honored in a wonderful ceremony before the first game.
Game 1 saw Senior Jacob Muncy take the mound for his final game in a Big Blue uniform. Muncy pitched a complete game giving up 4 runs on 6 hits but recorded 11 total strikeouts for the game, including 2 in the 6th inning when the bases were loaded to keep it a 1 run game.
In a surprising turn of events, Coach Hunter started the senior Tyler Frazier at first base for the first time since his leg injury early in the season. Go figure, Frazier was going to only be in for 1 pitch and for that one pitch the Rams batter hit a grounder to Justin Bowler at short who threw to Frazier at first getting the first out of the game, all while in a walking boot. Senior's Cody Underwood, Sean Williams and Crachad Laing all had productive game 1's. Underwood drew 2 walks and was able to score a run in the game. Williams got 2 hits and a walk and stole another base to add to his career total. Laing scored 2 runs himself and tallied another hit.
Unfortunately strong 5th inning, which saw a 2 run home run by Winston Salem State, gave the Rams a 4-3 lead, which they saw out to the end.
Game 2 saw the Big Blues other senior ace take to the mound. Ridge Sibold took the mound for the final time and also pitched a complete game for the Big Blues. In his outing he gave up 6 runs on 10 hits but had 4 strike outs including the last batter of his collegiate career. In an emotional final game all the seniors received a standing ovation as they took the field for the final time. Unfortunately the Rams pitching was excellent in the second game and limited the Big Blues offense to just 3 hits for the game.
The Big Blues end their season meeting their goal of playing the NCAA allotted 50 games in 1 season. The 6 seniors can hold their heads up high as all of them will be at the top of one or more major statistical categories for the Big Blues program.
