BLUEFIELD - Bluefield State Softball prepares to open their season with their first home game Saturday, March 13 against Bluefield College at Bluefield Highschool for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
The Big Blue returns with six starters from the previous season finishing short, 3-11, while Bluefield College finished 5-11. Bluefield College has an advantage going into Saturday's game with a 6-4 record for this 2021 season.
This season the Big Blue will be coached by
Rocky Stinson, Stinson earned three NCCAA Mid-East Championships at his previous schools. 2015 Rocky was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In 2018
Stinson coached at Southeastern University as the head coach, following as an assistant at Tennessee Wesleyan, where he won 40 games and went 30-14 in conference play.
"I am Looking forward to the start of our season, I believe with the challenges this team has faced in the fall and delay to our opening. We are excited to compete this spring."
"Though we have a thin roster we have the ability to compete for each game both offensively and pitching, if our defense takes care of the routine plays I don't see why we won't have a favorable record and a chance to be in the conversation for a chance to be in postseason talks," said Coach Stinson.
