BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield State Women's tennis team traveled to Canton, GA to play a trio of top NAIA teams on February 20 and 21. They played twice on Saturday and once on Sunday.
In the first match on Saturday the Big Blue tennis team took a 1-0 lead in doubles and never looked back. They swept all of the single to capture a 7-0 victory.
In the afternoon match, the women faced a determined Montreat Cavaliers team. After splitting the number 2 and number 3 doubles positions, with
Paula Saez and
Virginia Zanotti winning 6-3, the doubles team of Sherya Chakraborty and
Juliana Jimenez had the doubles point within their grasp before squandering a 5-1 lead in the tiebreaker and letting victory slip through their fingers.
The team continued to fight to the end in singles, with
Juliana Jimenez picking up a victory at the number 3 position, before ultimately falling 4-2. In the last match on Sunday against Reinhardt,
Juliana Jimenez continued her stellar play winning her third match in a row but it was the only point the ladies could muster in a 4-1 loss.
