Kevin Hurtado Named Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Bluefield State

Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University has announced the hiring of Kevin Hurtado as the new Head Women's Soccer Coach.

After three seasons at Lamar Community College, where he was tasked with building a program from the ground up in 2022, Hurtado now brings his experience and player-development focus to the Big Blue. At Lamar, he guided the Runnin' Lopes to a Top-7 finish out of 11 teams in 2023, narrowly missing the Region IX Tournament by goal differential. Over his three seasons, he also helped more than 14 graduating sophomores continue their careers at four-year universities across NCAA Division II and NAIA programs, with several athletes earning additional opportunities to play summer soccer.

Before his time at Lamar, Hurtado served as Head Women's Soccer Coach at Otero College in La Junta, Colorado. In three seasons with the Rattlers, his teams earned a first-place regular season finish in the South Division of the Region IX Conference in 2018 and consistently qualified for the Region IX Tournament. During his tenure, Otero produced more than 16 graduates who went on to continue their playing careers at the Division I, Division II, Division III, and NAIA levels.

Hurtado's coaching background also includes a season as Assistant Women's Soccer Coach at Indian Hills Community College in 2017, where he contributed to player development and goalkeeper training while serving as Residence Hall Supervisor. That season, the Warriors advanced to the Region XI Championship game, falling to Iowa Western Community College in a penalty shootout.

From 2014 to 2017, Hurtado returned to his alma mater, Centenary College of Louisiana, as Assistant Women's Soccer Coach, where he specialized in goalkeeper training and supported the program's transition from Division I to Division III. During that same period, he also coached at Benton High School, where the Lady Tigers laid the foundation for a culture that would eventually lead to a No. 4 state ranking in Louisiana's Division II Girls' Soccer.
