Box Score Bluefield, W.Va.— The Bluefield State Volleyball team defeated the Shaw University the Bears 3-1 (25-9, 25-14, 21-25, 25-20) this afternoon in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium. The Lady Blues are on a 10-game winning streak and have a 14-4 record on the season.

In the first set, Sophomore Alee Quint served 7 straight points, taking an early 7-0 lead. The Lady Blues continued their dominance by taking the first set, 25-9.
During the second set, the Bears showed more fight and made the set closer. During the midway point, the Lady Blues took over to take the victory, 25-14, and go up 2-0 in the match.
The third set was a little different, the Bears came out aggressive and took an 11-8 lead. The score stayed close, but the Bears took a 20-15 lead to cause Coach Poitier to take a timeout. Right after the timeout, the Lady Blues got the ball back after a kill by Tyann Thomas. The Bears came right back to take the serve the following point, up 21-16. After a block, a couple kills and a couple attack errors by the Lady Blues, the Bears took the third set 25-21.
In the third set, the Lady Blues had a short rally, taking a 11-5 lead. The Bears had a short rally themselves to get within 15-18 causing Coach Poitier to take a timeout and regroup his team. The Lady Blues pushed the lead to 20-15, but the Bears came back within one point, 19-20. The Lady Blues scored 5 points in a row with the help of a Brittany Bonamy kill and a serving ace by Jessie Rehwald to seal the 25-20.
Sophomore Brittney Deveaux has 13 kills on 19 attempts with 2 errors for a .579 attack percentage. Junior Tanasia Blake (pictured) had a solid game with 6 kills on 10 attempts with 1 errors for a .500 attack percentage. Junior Tyann Thomas has 11 kills on 20 attempts with 2 errors for a .450 attack percentage. Sophomore Brittany Bonamy added in 9 kills.
Sophomore Jessie Rehwald led the Lady Blues with 10 digs and added in 3 serving aces. Junior Leandrea Armbrister had the game high 5 serving aces and also added 3 digs and 1 kill. Sophomore Alee Quint had 24 set assists, 5 digs, and 1 serving ace.
The Lady Blues will play Ohio Valley University at home on Oct. 20th at 7:00 p.m. in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium.
