Box Score Pepper Pike, OH- The Lady Blues fell today on the road to The Ursuline College Arrows by a final score of 128 - 57.
Turnovers were the name of the game for The Lady Blues in today's contest, as they ended the day with 38. From the first quarter, the Arrows were all over The Blues, played high pressure, fast paced basketball. 13 of those 38 turnovers occurred in the first quarter. The Arrows took advantage of these mistakes, scoring 41 points.
The second quarter was the best shooting quarter for The Blues, as they were able to break down Ursuline's defense a little bit and score 17 points. But once again turnovers hurt the Lady Blues and The Arrows did not miss a beat putting up 20 for the quarter. That made the score 61-29 as the teams went to the locker room.
Coming out of the half The Lady Blues continued to struggle. The Arrow's transition offense really hurt BSC, as the Blues could never really get set defensively. As the game progressed The Arrows were able to make quick passes down the court to get easy layups. When the layups weren't there, they were able to kick it out and make shots behind the arc. Turnovers plus the solid shooting by The Arrows were just too much for The Lady Blues and they fell 128-57.
For the game, the Lady Blues shot 43% from the field, 25% from beyond the arc and 60% from the charity stripe. The Arrows held edges in both field goal percentage and 3 point shooting percentage, shooting 55% and 53% respectively. The Lady Blues were once again were out rebounded; only grabbing 25 total boards to Ursuline's 45.
Junior guard Tierra Richberg had a great game today scoring a team high 23 points. The starter played 37 minutes and was 8-12 from the floor. She also was solid from the free throw line making 7 of her 10 attempts.
The Lady Blues will look to rebound, playing local rival Concord University on Tuesday, January 26th. The game is still set to tip-off at 6:00 pm. These two teams played each other earlier in the season on November 18th with Concord pulling out a 65 – 49 victory.
