Another Road Win for the Lady Blues

The Lady Blues went on the road Saturday and picked up a big road won against Warren Wilson College in North Carolina. It would take a few minutes to get going after the long ride, but when they finally go it going, the Lady Blues put a 24-4 run together to finish the first quarter and they never looked back.

The Lady Blues could only muster up 2 points in the first two minutes of the game, but still had a 2-0 lead with 7:52 remaining when Warren Wilson would tie the ball game with 2 free throws. After the free throws, the Lady Blues would hold the Owls scoreless for the next five minutes while scoring 21 in a row. Ameera McClain would get things started on a lay-up assisted by Lauryn Hatfield and then Hatfield would make a steal, score a jump shot, and convert and old-fashioned three-point play to get the run started. Derricka Bramwell would score a quick lay-up and Alexus Tucker would add her own three-point play and jump shot to make the score 16-2. A free throw and 3-pointer from Haley McComas and two 3-pointers from Ericah Burton would round out the scoring for the quarter sending the Lady Blues to a 26-6 lead at the end of one.

The second quarter would see Jemiah Brittnum come off the bench to lead the way with 6 points, while Kylah Webb would add 5. The visitors would outscore the home team 20-13 in the second to take a very commanding 46-19 lead into the locker room at the half.

The third quarter looked very similar to the second as the hosts where outscored 19-11, which grew the lead to 35 for the Lady Blues by the end of the period. McComas would lead the way with 5 points and both Webb and Tucker would add 4 apiece.

Bramwell would lead the way in the final frame with 6 points and the Lady Blues would grow their lead to the biggest of the game and the final margin off the game, finishing with an 81-40 victory. Despite scoring 81 points, only two players managed to score in double figures for the Lady Blues. Tucker led the team with 12, and Webb was right behind with 11. McComas would add 9, while Burton and Bramwell would add 8 each. Jia Coppola would lead the team with 8 rebounds, while Brooke Russell added 6.

Next up for the Lady Blues will be Tuesday evening when they host Penn State-Beaver in a USCAA showdown. Both teams are currently ranked #3 in their respective divisions. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
