Box Score 2 BRISTOL, Tennessee - Bluefield State traveled to Bristol, Tennessee, for a St. Patrick's Day doubleheader with King University. It proved to be an unlucky trip for the Big Blue. And a historic one for the Tornado.
Game 1 went to King, 18-3. They started fast with a six-run onslaught in the first inning against Madison Thompson. The Tornado scored six more in the second and three in the third.
Senior Jessi Foster made her pitching debut in the fourth inning, giving up the Tornado's final three runs.
The Big Blue avoided a shutout, scoring three runs in the fifth.
They weren't so lucky in Game 2.
The Tornado's Carly Turner pitched the first perfect game in school history. She started fast, striking out the side in the first inning on 13 pitches. She finished with ten strikeouts.
The Big Blue's Kennedy James got her first start and faced the same offensive whirlwind, giving up 18 runs in 2 1/3 innings. Final score: 23-0.
