Baltimore, MD- Bluefield State University women's basketball has been selected 7^th in the 2024-25 Central Intercollegiate Athletics (CIAA) Preseason Poll and Jayla Sample was voted onto the All-CIAA Preseason Frontcourt Team.

In the 2024-25 season, the Big Blue finished 15-13 (8-9 CIAA) with the season coming to a close after a 59-45 loss to Fayetteville State University, who would go on to win the CIAA tournament. After dropping the first game of the season, the Big Blue collected eight consecutive wins to start out 8-1.

"Our team being selected 7^th overall this year after being picked 11^th a year ago is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our players and staff. It's a reflection of the belief and investment they've made into this program" Head Coach Paul Davis said. "I'm incredibly proud of Jayla Sample for being named to the preseason All-CIAA team. She embodies the work ethlic and commitment that defines our team. We're all excited to continue building on this progress and competing at a high level this season."

Jayla Sample was named to the CIAA All-CIAA frontcourt team. Sample started in all 28 games for the Big Blue last season and had a total of 257 points, shooting 60% from the free-throw line and 36% from the field. Sample added 117 rebounds, 36 assists and 26 steals.

"I appreciate the faith and support from my coaches and other voters. I'm excited to be blessed to play my last year and show the CIAA the value me and my team have to offer. GO BIG BLUE!!" said Jayla Sample.

The Big Blue will kickoff their season at home November 8^th against Clarion University at 12 p.m.
