New York, NY – Bluefield State University Track & Field opened the 2026 indoor campaign at the HBCU Showcase in New York, New York.
In the women's high jump, Taleyah Palmer set the school record with a leap of 1.48m (8th in CIAA, 43rd in HBCUs). Freshmen Taniyah Hicks continued the strong showing with a personal best in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 9.22s (10th in CIAA). The best showing of the weekend for the women came from the shot-put circle. Ja'myiah Walker continued her standout freshman campaign, breaking her own school record with a 3-foot jump in her throw, with a throw of 13.44m. This throw put her 2nd in the CIAA, 7th across HBCUs, and 36th in Division II.
On the men's side, the upperclassmen put on a show with several high places against DI & DII. Wilthin Alcime was able to post a season best in the men's 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.97s, his first run under 9.00s this season. Senior Darius Brown stood his ground against a number of DI athletes, placing 5th overall with a jump of 14.34m, beating out all other DII athletes. Closing out the meet and beating all the other DII athletes with a 4th place finish was Robert Scott III in the men's 200m.
