Box Score Asheville, NC- The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team lost a close one on Saturday, 57-64, against Warren Wilson College in Asheville, NC.
For the game, the Lady Blues shot 37% from the field, 40% from three and 59.1% from the free-throw line. Warren Wilson had a slight edge in shooting percentage from the field with 43.3% and only committed 9 turnovers, while forcing the Lady Blues to have 14 turnovers.
The Lady Blues started out on fire after a three by Hatfield, a layup by Richberg and a free-throw by Blake to take an early 6-0 lead. The Owls went on a 6-0 to tie the game, but the Lady Blues took a 13-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Owls took the lead 19-18 after a jump shot with 5:04 on the clock. The Owls pushed their lead to 4 points, 27-23 with 2 minutes on the clock, but the Lady Blues finished the half on a 7-4 run to get within 1 point, 30-31.
Coming out of the half, the Lady Blues struggled offensively with only 7 points and were behind 37-43 going into the fourth and final quarter of the game. The Owls extended their lead to 15 points with 3:09 on left in the game. The Lady Blues couldn't recover from the deficit and lost 57-64.
Junior Tierra Richberg had a monster night with another double-double of 19 rebounds (career high), 17 points, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Freshman Lyndsay Hatfield (pictured) had a great game with 19 points (3-for-5 from three and 8-for-9 from FT's), 6 rebounds, and 1 assist. Junior Tanasia Blake had 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 1 assist.
The Lady Blues will host Virginia State on Thursday, Jan. 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, W.Va.
