Box Score ROME, Georgia - Bluefield State Baseball fell in game three to Shorter University Sunday, February 21 at Robert H. Ledbetter Baseball Complex, 6-5.
The game was tied at five with Shorter University batting in the bottom of the ninth when Woods singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
Bluefield State trailed by four runs in the seventh inning, but then fought back to lower the final margin. The Big Blue scored five runs in the failed comeback on a home run by Tanner Brandon in the eighth, a single by Roman Moore in the ninth, and a fielder's choice by Shane Reviello in the ninth.
Daniel Rayfield took the loss for the Big Blue. The right-hander allowed five hits and two runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four.
Number 25 started the game for the Hawks. Undefined went seven innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out 15, and walking one
Bluefield State hit one home run Sunday afternoon. Brandon went deep in the eighth inning.
Brandon went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Bluefield State in hits.
Number 23 was the winning pitcher for Shorter University. The hurler lasted two innings, allowing three hits and five runs while striking out three and walking zero.
Shorter University collected 11 hits. #13, Brannigan, and Woods all collected multiple hits for Shorter University.
