Bluefield, WV — Bluefield State University Athletics has named Porsha Graves as the Head Coach of the Women's Basketball Program.
"We are incredibly excited to name Porsha Graves as our next head women's basketball coach," said Director of Athletics Brodderick Tucker. "Coach Po has already proven herself to be an invaluable asset to our university. Her extensive background in recruiting, player development, and building winning cultures makes her the ideal leader to guide our student-athletes moving forward."
During her recent tenure with the Big Blue, Graves managed recruiting, player evaluations, roster management, scouting, and guard development. Under her mentorship, multiple student-athletes secured conference accolades, including All-Conference and All-Rookie recognition.
Prior to arriving at Bluefield State, Graves was an assistant coach at Greensboro College, where she directed recruiting operations, academic monitoring, scouting preparation, and program logistics.
Her collegiate career followed a highly successful ten-year tenure at The Burlington School in North Carolina. Serving as both an assistant and head coach, she guided the program to multiple Final Four appearances, conference championships, and two NCISAA State Championships. Notably, in her first season as head coach, she led a roster of just six players to a State Runner-Up finish. Graves began her head coaching career in 2012 at her alma mater, Hugh M. Cummings High School, where she took over a struggling program mid-season and led them to a second-round playoff appearance.
"I am honored and blessed to be named the next head women's basketball coach at Bluefield State University," said Graves. "I want to thank our administration for believing in my vision. Our philosophy will center on structure, accountability, and purpose. We will focus on building a sustainable championship culture that develops our student-athletes both on and off the court."
As a student-athlete, Graves was a four-year varsity starter, team captain, and an All-State selection at Hugh M. Cummings High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, while showcasing her athletic versatility by competing in collegiate basketball (North Greenville), volleyball, and softball (JCSU).
